Profile
Sybil was involved in the formation of the RVLT in 1992
and has served as secretary since that time. She developed
a keen interest in the natural world at a young age, wandering
the wilderness of southwest Manchester Township during family
visits to her grandparent's farm. She and her husband settled
on the same property in 1976. Their house and property is
the starting point for the annual RVLT cross-country ski
outing each January. Over the years they have built a tradition
of sharing the natural wealth of the property with friends
and relatives from far and wide. What was once marginal
farmland is now returning to its natural wooded state. She
and her husband cut firewood on the property to heat their
house, supplemented by passive solar energy and some LP
gas. Sybil has a bachelor's degree in forestry from Michigan
State University. She has worked with the Michigan Department
of Environmental Quality (formerly part of the DNR) in Jackson
since 1992, where she works to enforce state laws to promote
the clean-up of sites of environmental contamination. She
has served on the Manchester Township Planning Commission
since 1999.
