LCLS News

Having successfully commissioned and distributed a county wide land use study and helping to prod the county to undertake a revision of its master land use plan, the Lenawee Citizens for Land Stewardship (LCLS) has spent the last few meetings resetting its directional compass. As a consensus based organization LCLS must continually listen to its members to be current with their concerns and maintain their interest. The last meeting was a 7:30 AM coffee meeting with Region II planner Tim Anderson to hear and talk about a proposed questionnaire that the County Planning Commission is planning to mail randomly to 4-5,000 County residents.

The meeting was a frank discussion about what kind of impression will be conveyed by the questionnaire and how that will reflect on the remainder of the process. Concern was voiced that leading questions may tell more about the questioner than the questionee and that caution should be exercised in probing specific issues. It was felt that a concerted effort should be made to make the master planning process open and accessible to the public. The LCLS has been meeting on the first Thursday of each month and further information can be had by calling John Skinner of MSU Extension at 517/264-5306.
