Wayne Kirkby

Wayne has been on the RVLT Board since 1995 and serves on our easement committee. He was raised near the banks of the Grand River in the community of Grandville, southwest of Grand Rapids. He attended Michigan State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree and did graduate work in urban planning. In 1969 Wayne graduated from the University of Michigan Law School. Since that time he has been employed as a corporate attorney by Consumers Energy, where he has specialized in matters such as land use, antitrust, project financing and wholesale power transactions.

During the 1970’s, Wayne was a member of the City of Jackson Planning Commission, where he served as chairman for several years. In 1981 he moved to a rural setting north of Manchester. Early on, Wayne became attracted to the River Raisin, where he has participated in several canoe races and frequent recreational canoeing. He is active in several sports which enable him to enjoy the outdoor environment, such as cross country skiing, bicycling, hunting and golf. Wayne sees the activities of the RVLT as a means of preserving the ability of future generations to enjoy the natural landscape of the River Raisin watershed.
