Preserving natural areas, rural and historical features of the River Raisin Watershed

Fall 2001 RVLT Home Page Vol. 9, No. 3

Who are you and what are you thinking?

f one end of this newsletter is its writing, editing, design and printing, the other is in the hands of those to whom it is distributed. While readers may have developed a sense of the former, it would be difficult for you to know much about the latter. In fact we ourselves have a pretty loose grip on who is reading this newsletter.

Before 1999 we photocopied, collated, folded, licked and stamped by hand. Our mailing list was a similar low-tech affair, scavenged over a period of time from a variety of sources, but centered on local, county and state government officials. We are now getting the hang of professional design, mass mailing and bulk postage and have expanded the mailing list by adding the names of those who have attended Citizens for Land Stewardship meetings. However, an effective newsletter should know its reader. We are proposing to review our mailing list to better reach all those who would value it, while culling names that are no longer appropriate.

This is where we need you, the reader to engage with us. It is difficult to ask those who don’t read the newsletter to let us know why, but we can encourage those of you who do to give us feedback. You can help us get interesting ideas and useful information to the residents of the River Raisin watershed that are most likely to value them. Who do you think should receive it and where should we make it available for pick up? How can we improve the content? Do you have ideas to write about, dates and information to convey or skills to offer? Can you suggest collaborations that we should explore? Let us know what you value and what you don’t in this newsletter.

Please call, write or e-mail your friendly editors as listed in the sidebar of the front page.
