Watershed Plan
in the Making

ast fall the River Raisin Watershed Council (RRWC) received a grant from the Department of Environmental Quality to prepare a watershed management plan. The process is just starting up. A consulting firm will do a lot of the legwork, but the larger community, including businesses, governments, organizations and individuals, will shape the final product. The RVLT is looking forward to being involved in the process. It may not sound important or exciting, but the watershed is your backyard, the roof on your house, the streets you drive on, the farmer's fields. When the rain falls, when the snow melts, the water finds its way to the river and carries many things with it. The RRWC puts it this way: "The RRWC Watershed Management Plan will provide a blueprint to improve water quality, protect natural resources, improve quality of life, reduce pollution and provide economic benefits." Meetings and field trips are being planned. The RRWC wants your input. See the contact information on page 3.
