he RVLT is a partner in the Raisin Cluster of the Stewardship Network. The last two workshops of the year will focus on native seed collection and planting at two properties where restoration activities are underway. Both workshops will be led by Tom Tucker, Assistant Land Steward of The Nature Conservancy in Michigan. In October we will learn the ins and outs of native seed collecting and help collect seed for future restoration plantings. In addition, seed processing and storage methods will be demonstrated. In November we go to the Kellum property to learn about planting techniques and equipment used in restoration of natural areas for wildlife habitat and creation of aquatic buffers. Site preparation will also be covered in detail. These are both large properties, but most of these techniques can be applied to smaller projects. Even large properties have to be broken into smaller management units.
